This is an awesome deal! If you are a new Key Bank customer, you can get an iPod Touch for free when you open a checking account. There are some requirements in order for you to get the FREE iPod Touch, you can see the complete list of details HERE, but I will list the basics for you.
- Open either a Key Express Free Checking or Key Advantage Money Market Checking account by July 30, 2010.
- Make one Key Bank Rewards debit Card transaction.
- Have a combination of two direct deposits and/or automated payments each of $100 or more by October 1, 2010
You must enroll in the KeyBank Rewards points program. You can enroll by requesting a KeyBank Rewards debit card from the branch, by calling 877-KEY-ONLY, or through the online application on key.com. There is a $20 annual fee for the KeyBank Rewards Program that will be waived for the first year.
I can’t see any reason why you wouldn’t take advantage of this offer, unless maybe you aren’t into cool tech gadgets. I am sure you could think of somebody who is, and this would make a really nice gift. I will be doing this offer, and I will let you know how it goes. You can apply online if you are ready to take advantage of this deal.
You can get all the answers to FAQ HERE. This offer is available in the following districts: Cleveland, Eastern OH, Idaho, Western NY, Oregon, Seattle Cascades, South Puget Sound, Central NY, Rochester, Maine, Northwest OH, Michigan, and Capital Region NY.
Thanks to my son Jordan for finding this offer (I am sure the words FREE iPod Touch were what got his attention).
Nicole says
Tell Jordan thank you from me. I have been trying to get my swagbucks up so that I can earn the $300 Apple store giftcard so I could get one but it’s been slow going. This means I could have one sooner! Yeah for free!
Natalie says
I was reading the fine print on Keys website and it stated “Automated payments exclude Key Bill Pay, debit card automated payments, PayPal® transactions, and account-to-account balance transfers.”
Could you tell me an example of an automated payment that would qualify you for the ipod?
Christy says
Natalie – I believe this means that you would need to set up an automatic payment directly with the company you are paying. For instance, if I wanted to set up my phone bill for an auto payment, I would go directly to my phone companies website and enter the checking account information there, and set it to automatically get paid. This is different than the Key bill pay, because that is done directly from the Key Bank website.
It is kind of confusing, so I will send an email to them to get some clarification, and let you know what I find out.
Kim Garner says
I can’t seem to find what the initial opening deposit must be. Anyone know?
Christy says
I don’t think there is a minimum amount. The checking account that you are required to open (Key Express Free Checking) has no minimum balance requirements on the account.
Denise says
When you do this…
“must enroll in the KeyBank Rewards points program.”
Can you cancel after the free year if you don’t want to pay the $20 fee?
Christy says
It says that you can cancel the account after 180 days and not have to pay the $25 cancellation fee. I am sure you can cancel the rewards card before the year is up, and you will be fine.
Kim says
Thanks. Have you done this yet? I am thinking of doing this to surprise my hubby with the iPod for his birthday in November!
Christy says
Kim – I signed up online for my account today. The signing up went smooth, and I made sure to sign up for the Key Bank Rewards card, so I just need to complete my transactions. I will keep everyone updated with how things go once I have completed all the transactions.
It does say it should take up to 90 day to get the iPod once you have completed the offer, so it will be awhile before I actually get the iPod.
Kim says
Yeah, I saw that 90-day thing too. I am a little hesitant to try this for some reason, but I think I am going to sign up today. I have been thinking of having a separate account for our medical bills (insurance, savings, copays, etc.), so this will work well for that. We upped my insurance deductible to $10,000 in order to cut my premium way down, and now we are putting the money we save on the premium into savings so we’ll have money for medical expenses…or so we’re hoping anyway. Thanks again for this deal. My hubby will be so surprised and so thrilled when I give him an iPod for his birthday!
Christy says
Kim – There really isn’t any cost for signing up (unless you order checks, I guess). I don’t plan on ordering checks, my plan is just use the debit/mastercard that comes with it.
I am also planning on using this as a medical/dental account. One of my boys just got braces, so I will add the money to this account and just have the payment deducted monthly.
My thinking is that even if I didn’t get the iPod (though I don’t see why I wouldn’t), it didn’t cost any money to open the account, so I am not losing out on anything. You’ll have to keep me updated.
I would love to hear from anyone who does this, and let me know when you get your iPod, it will be fun! Even if you don’t personally want an iPod Touch, it is something that could EASILY be sold on Ebay, and you will get cash instead. I really see this as a great opportunity to get an amazing freebie, or to make some extra cash!

I did this promotion a few years ago to get an I Pod for my son. It came faster than I anticipated, and now it is mine (he upgraded). It was a great deal.
lisa says
Got an email today that mine is being shipped!!! I have been patiently waiting for it to show up in the mailbox and it is coming FEDEX. SO excited!!
Mehmet says
Lisa,
When did you meet the requirements?
I have met the requirements 2 weeks ago but I did not hear from them.
Thanks…
lisa says
it took about 5-6 weeks from when i met the requirements. I did not hear anything about my ipod until it was actually being shipped. i got a email with a fedex tracking number. HTH.
Christy says
Thanks so much for the update Lisa, it is a HUGE help to those of us still waiting. I am still in the process of meeting the requirements, so I am a couple months away from getting mine. If anyone else gets theirs, please share.
roy says
I have a question. Has anyone got their ipod touch yet? It is kind of fishy and their is no confirmation number or anything to talk to the people to get your ipod touch. It seems like it is a kind of thing that lures people in. Well I hope its true.
did it before says
I did it a couple years back for an ipod nano. Got it without any problems the bank is legit and you will get it. I closed that account when chase offered 100.00 to open one, closed chase when Key offered the touch. They play us, I say play them for all it is worth. They rip people off with their nsf fees that they add and add so…………
