Looking for that crowd pleasing meal?
Look no further!
Spaghetti always seems to be a quick, easy, throw together dish for big crowds, but who wants to be working in the kitchen when you’d rather be visiting! This little dish gives you more visiting time and rave reviews from anyone eating it! It’s a great twist on traditional spaghetti and in my opinion, twice the flavor!
I’d love to give credit where credit is due, but I’m not exactly sure where this recipe came from. I THINK it may have been from Taste of Home magazine. I got the recipe years ago and I have the tattered little card, but no source on it!
I always make it the night before, so I can preheat the oven, pop it in and be done!
Ready?…Here we go…
What you will need:
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1 lb package sausage
- 1 jar meatless spaghetti sauce (26oz)
- 2 eggs
- 16 oz spaghetti noodles (not thin!)
- 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 5 TBLS Melted butter
- 16 oz small curd cottage cheese
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella
- Small carton sliced mushrooms (optional)
First: Get your water boiling and cook the regular size spaghetti only 3/4 of the way… {do not cook it completely or it turns soggy when you bake it}. When they have cooked for 3/4 of the time drain the spaghetti.
Brown 1/2 pound of ground beef and package sausage. Add 1/2 carton of sliced mushrooms half way through cooking. In a bowl melt 5 Tbsp butter. Add 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese and two eggs. Pour the drained noodles in and mix and then set aside.
When your hamburger/sausage/mushroom mix is completely cooked, drain and put back in the skillet. Pour in almost all of one jar (26oz)of spaghetti sauce. Any kind you choose. I prefer a traditional with nothing chunky in it.
The sauce you saved will go on the bottom of your 9×13 to keep the goods from sticking. On top of the noodles place 1/2 of your saucy meat mixture. On the meat mixture sprinkle 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese and 1/2 carton of cottage cheese 8oz. {trust me, it’s good} Repeat the process.
Place it in the oven @350 for 40 min. covered! Uncover and bake for another another 20 min.

Does this freeze well?

Indeed it does! When I make it, I usually make enough for 2 batches and always freeze one for later! It just increases the bake time! Enjoy!
