This is a reminder that the BIG 70% off Target toy clearance will be happening sometime in January. There is a slim chance that the toys could go 70% off this week, but according to previous years I am guessing that they will go 70% off next week on January 12th. Target could also switch things up, where they just marked down a few items to 70% off for a couple of weeks instead of marking the majority of the toys down at once. (they did this once before). We won’t really know when it happens until it happens!
Here are some important points you will want to remember:
- The BIG markdown will probably happen on the normal toy markdown day at your store (most stores are Thursday). However, it could happen on a Wednesday (if they do it early) or on a Friday (if they are running behind).
- In all honesty, I would NOT call your store to see if the markdown has taken place. Most of the time the people that answer the phones aren’t even aware of when it happens (some don’t even know that it happens). You may get the wrong information.
- You will want to check in on the Thrifty & Thriving Facebook page on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings (you are more than welcome to check in every day) to see if anyone has posted details that their store has gone 70% off. I have several readers who plan to post on the Facebook page as soon as they know what is going on at their store.
- Don’t forget! Do not go by what the sign says (especially if it says only 50% off), sometimes they change the prices but they don’t get the chance to change the signs. Read the prices on those individual red stickers. You may find some 70% off items mixed in with 50% off items.

Has anyone had a chance to see if the xmas stuff has been marked down to 90 yet??? It was still 70 last night, but my hubby is working, and with the kids out of school I dont want to trek it down there! lol I am hoping it is tomorrow, just trying to get confirmation. Last year I scored my xmas tree for 25! TIA!
I live in Tallahassee, FL and when the kids and I were in there today, they were rearranging/consolidating all of the toys, and I picked up a Cars 2 Tokyo Spinout Track set for $13.99 (the price on the shelf said $21.99, but the scanner price was $13.99). Not sure how many of the other toys were marked down that much, b/c we didn’t have time to look further.
My Target was still at 70% for the Christmas stuff. Most toys were 30% and some were 50% off. A few toys mixed in were 70% off. I scored a 4 pack of Thomas trains at 70% off (regularly 34.99 marked down to 10.48). It looks like my Target will have tons of trains (Thomas, Chuggington, no name brand), baby dolls, super heros, Squinkles, Zhu Zhu Pets, dress up, some princesses, hot wheels big sets, etc. Most were on end caps and some were mix in the aisles. A few things were in the aisles among the outdoors/sport goods for some reason. They had carts everywhere shifting merchandise. Shoes and slippers, kids clothes, and men’s were mostly at 30% off too. Lots of women’s clothes for 50-70% off here.
I know this post is about Target, but does anyone know when Walmart’s Christmas stuff clearances for 70% off? Walmart is a half hour or more away and I would not rather go until I know for sure.
I heard many ppl saying it will NOT go 90% this year and it will go savage. ???? Anyone else heard this?
I’ve never seen Christmas items at our Target stores (Cleveland, OH) make it to 90%…boo! I was at Wal-Mart today, and the very little Christmas stock that was left was at 75%, I think. No great deals, but some of the toys were 50% off, so if you can go without your kids (not me), they had a lot of Barbies for around $10 (more elaborate ones with lights/sounds/glitter), Polly Pocket boat set for around $10, a giant garbage or fire truck for $20 (that I, of course, had trouble tracking down before Christmas, but paid full price when I found one), and lots of others.
@heidi I hear that same rumor every season, and every season the items still go to 90% off. I don’t think it is true.
@Michelle The majority of the Christmas items already went 75% off at my Walmart (Covington, WA). All of the signs at my store still read 50% off, so you will need to scan a couple of things to make sure. I have noticed that all the gift sets seem to be the items that were 75% off for sure at the stores I stopped at. You can see some details here:

There were some toys at 50% off near the Christmas 50% and 75% off stuff at the Woodland, WA, Walmart. A lot of toys up front in the toy section had clearance stickers, but were barely even on sale. So… I’m thinking that the toys will probaby go further and further on clearance soon, similar to Target.
be on the look out for the Fisher Price little mommy dolls and accessories. Fisher Price has redesigned the dolls (painted on eyes now) and the boxes look different so we should see all of the old style little mommy dolls and doll accessories reach 70% 😉
