Update: All of the reservations for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge have now been claimed.
The opening dates for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge have been released and they are ahead of schedule and sooner than first expected. Here are the opening dates for both Disneyland and Disney World. If you are a big Disney or Star Wars fan, join our Disney Vacationeers Facebook group, we’ll have lots of discussions going to help you plan your trips and save you some money.
Disneyland – May 31st
Disney World (Hollywood Studios) – August 29th
The opening for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be done in two phases. During phase one, you’ll be able to take the controls and fly most famous ship in the galaxy with Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. You can also sample galactic food and beverages, and check out some merchant shops and more.
Phase two, will open later this year when you can experience Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Disney says that this is the “most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined that will put guests in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance and will blur the lines between fantasy and reality”. Sounds exciting!! I wish we knew the opening dates for phase two, because this sounds like a ride that we don’t want to miss.
If you plan a visit to Disneyland between May 31 – June 23 will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation to gain access to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. If you are staying at one of the Disneyland hotels, you will get a designated reservation to access Galaxy’s Edge during your stay. You cannot choose an exact time, so you will need to be flexible. Valid theme park admission is required. If you booked a room at a Disney hotel you should receive an email very soon. Information on when you can make a reservation if you are staying at a non-Disney hotel has now been released. Everyone else will be able to book their reservation on May 2nd at 10 am PST. The reservations are limited. Make sure you have a Disney account before the registration date. Specific details on how to get the reservation will be released on Disneyland.com on May 2nd at 8 am.
If booking a trip to Disneyland I highly recommend checking the package deals through Get Away Today, they always have some of the best deals on hotel and ticket packages and their service is top notch. If booking a package deal you can use the code THRIVING10 to save an additional $10 off the package price. Get Away Today is offering your 5th Day Free, when you buy a 4-day Disneyland Park Hopper ticket. You may need 5 days in the parks with Galaxy’s Edge opening this summer. This special offer is valid for travel May 24 – December 31, 2019. If you need suggestions on a hotel, you can check out our reviews of 12 different hotels around Disneyland, including all 3 Disneyland hotels.
If booking a trip to Disney World I recommend using Undercover Tourist. We have used them and several occasions and have been very pleased. I highly recommend staying at a Disney hotel because of all the perks associated with staying on site. You will want to take advantage of booking your FastPass+ options 60 days in advance in order to have any chance go getting the new Star Wars rides. Also, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be available during Extra Magic Hours. If you are staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels, Extra Magic Hours gives you extra time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios enjoying select attractions. We recently stayed at the newly refurbished Caribbean Beach Resort and highly recommend it.
