couldn’t you buy the easy rebate paper for $6.99 and then get all the penny items + the rebate and only pay $.31 for everything?
crystal says
lisa, it’s a mail in rebate not an instant so you would be oop for the paper until you get in your rebate. sometimes they are fast and other times ….. well lets just say you may get it by next years penny sales 😉
Christy says
@Lisa Yes, you can do it that way too, since the $6.99 cost will get you to the $5 minimum purchase for the $ .01 items.

Unfortunately Staples has changed the way they allow teachers to purchase these items. In the past most stores would allow a teacher (with ID) to purchase 25 of the Extreme Deals with a $5 purchase. Now a teacher can spend $5 and get two for a penny. You can then buy another 23 at full price. They will then reimburse a teacher for the price of the 23 purchased via Staples Rewards.

There is also a $5 off when you spend $30 in the ad this week. I ended up needing one cartridge of black ink unfortunately. I’m moving in about a week and accidentally packed my ink and could not find it in the plethora of boxes so had to buy ink:(
I got ink for $15.99
2 reams of paper for $6.00 each
2 boxes of crayons $0.01 each
2 school glues $0.01 each
2 packages of Bic pens $0.01 each
4 little plastic boxes $.25 each (for kids crafts)
=$31.03
– $5 off coupon
– $9 off previous reward
total = $17.03 (plus will get back $13.48 for the two reams of paper)
After rebate will have spent $3.55

I was informed of the new teacher rule as well and was not very happy. I do not have the money to pay $1.50 for 24 bottles of glue even if get the money back eventally. September is always a really expensive month for teachers. This new rules makes me want to buy supplies somewhere like Walmart instead where their prices are always pretty affordable.
