I personally own a Kindle eReader and I love it! I mentioned it here in my list of my 10 favorite things for the month of September. If you have been thinking about getting one, now would be a great time because Amazon is taking $20 off the price of 3 different Kindle options for 3 days only.
Out of all the options below I would go with the All-New Kindle Paperwhite mainly because it has a built-in light. My son has the basic Kindle and we just clip a reading light to it for night time reading, but I love the built-in light on the Kindle Paperwhite (and Voyage).
Kindle, 6″ Glare-Free Wi-Fi $59.99 (reg $79.99)
Kindle for Kids Bundle $79.99 (reg $99.99)
All-New Kindle Paperwhite, 6″ Wi-Fi $99.99 (reg $119.99)
Here are a few reasons why I prefer for my family and I to read on the Kindle rather than a tablet (or even a real book):
- The light on the Kindle is not as harsh as those on a tablet, which is great if you read before bed.
- The battery on the Kindle last weeks instead of days/hours (I didn’t think this would be that great of a feature, but I seriously love it)
- We don’t allow devices in our kids rooms that have internet access. The Kindle readers allow my kids to read electronic books without all the other distractions.
- Easy access to a ton of books!!! (This is by far my favorite feature of the eReader, we can check out ebooks from the library, find FREE books at Amazon, use Kindle Unlimited and buy Kindle books at Amazon.com instantly)
- You can have tons of books on one small device that travels with you anywhere. I can keep it in my purse and pull it out while I am waiting in the parking lot for my kids to get out of their after school activities.
If you still think you would prefer a tablet (we actually own both tablets and the Kindle) you can pick up the new Kindle Fire, 7″ Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB for the amazingly low price of only $49.99. (Crazy, right?) Yes, I realize this is cheaper than any of the Kindle eReaders, but I seriously love my Kindle and would choose it over the Fire since I read so much.
