I seriously love my Kindle Voyage e-reader! I love that it is backlit so I can read in bright sunlight or total darkness. It means I can do my reading in two of my favorite places, vacationing on the beach or at night when I am bed. I love my Kindle e-reader so much that I picked one up for each of my kids. Here are the main reasons why I love the e-readers for my kids and myself:
Easy Access to Books: There is easy access to so many books instantly via Amazon and even our public library. At night time when my kids say “Mom, I need a new book”, I can easily send one to their Kindle. It’s just like magic and I love it! If you haven’t tried checking out digital books from your library, give it a try! You will be amazed at the huge selection and the ease of checkout. (Below you will see a peek at e-books we have checked out and have on hold at our library)
Sample Books: I also love the fact that you can sample a book to see if it is something you will be interested in before you borrow or purchase a book. We have come home with stacks of books from the library only to find out they weren’t our taste or they didn’t meet our standards.
Not a Tablet (No internet Access): The Kindle’s do not have internet access like tablets do, we do not allow devices with internet browsing access in our children’s rooms, this was one of the main selling points for me. These e-readers are meant for reading only, which is exactly what I want my kids to do…READ! This rule even applies to our teenagers, in fact, it’s especially important for the teenagers.
Borrow a Book Every Month: If you are a Prime member and own a Kindle you will get to borrow a book every month from the Kindle Lending library. Prime members also get a FREE book through Kindle First, but you don’t have to own a Kindle for that freebie.
Night Time Reading is Easy: I love that with my Kindle Voyage I can read at night and I don’t have to keep a light on in the room. You will also find this feature with the Kindle Paperwhite.
Easy to Take Anywhere: I can throw the Kindle in my purse so I can read when I have a little down time like at my son’s swimming or while I am waiting in the parking lot for my daughter to get out of play practice. I love taking it on vacation, if I finish a book I can very easily download a new one. No need to carry several books with me, they all fit on this one small device.
Here is a peek at the different type of Kindles you can choose from. Right now is a great time to buy because Prime member will save $30 or $50 on these devices. If you are a Prime member you will see the discount automatically come off at checkout.
All-New Kindle E-reader 6″ $79.99
Prime members save $30 at checkout

This is the newest version and is thinner and lighter. This is the basic e-reader that does not come with a backlight, so if you want to do reading at night you will need to buy a clip on light or just have your room light on. My college age son owns this one so you can continue to check out books from our library back home.
Kindle for Kids Bundle $99.99 (reg $124.98)
Prime members save $30 at checkout
Final Price = $69.99
This is basically the e-reader mentioned above however it comes with some things that make it a great option for kids. This Kindle comes without sponsored screensaver and includes a free kid-friendly cover. The best part is it includes a 2-year worry-free guarantee, which means it can be replaced for any reason.
Kindle Paperwhite E-reader 6″ $119.99
Prime members save $30 at checkout
Final Price = $89.99
This one is backlit so if you think you will be reading in the dark, this would be the one you will probably want to go with. Two of my kids own this one and they are used almost on a nightly basis. They are great for traveling too because you can have several books on on small device.
Kindle Voyage E-reader 6″ $199.99
Prime members save $50 at checkout
Final Price = $149.99
Lastly is the Kindle Voyage, which is the one I personally own. The differences between this and the Kindle Paperwhite is that is is lighter and thinner. It also has a sensor in the front that will automatically adjust the light in the background to however light or dark the room is. My favorite feature is there are pagepress buttons on the front so you can “click” and the pages will turn, you don’t have to move a finger.
If you have a teenager that loves to read, I encourage you to check out our list of Clean Books for Teens, we have personally read and the over 50 books on the list to make sure they meet our standards.
