I knew when I saw these super cute Ice Cream Sundae Cupcakes over at Living Locurto, I HAD to make them for an upcoming birthday. So flippin’ cute and clever!!
Want to make some too? Here is what you do:
First, you need to find youself some ice cream cups. They found their ice cream cups HERE. YIKES! Expensive, huh? I put my super bargain finding skills to work, and I found the ones pictured above at Michael’s craft store for only $1.99 (Plus, I had a 20% off coupon to boot!). The ones I found were smaller, and they fit the cupcakes perfectly.
Next, you will want to make some cupcakes. I just used a boxed cake mix, so it was super simple. I baked them in regular cupcake liners and then once they were cooled I added them to the ice cream cups.
The frosting comes next! It looks just like ice cream, doesn’t it? You will want to head on over to Living Locurto for the frosting recipe. Make sure you refrigerate it first.
Next melt some chocolate candy melts, these work better than just regular chocolate chips because they set up nicely. Then you will want to add some sprinkles.
Lastly, you will want to add a “cherry” on top. I used Gobstoppers, you could also use Gum Balls or any other round red candy.
I wrapped one up in cello, and made a card with the Silhouette SD Machine. Perfect to give to a friend for their birthday. I can see working a whole birthday party theme around these cute little cupcakes.

Did you bake the cupcake in the cup? or did you bake the cupcake normal in a cupcake pan and then drop it into the cup? Super cute, gonna make actually for the next birthday…. LOVE IT!!!
@Missy I guess I didn’t explain that very well, did I? I will update my post. I just baked them in regular cupcake liners, and then added it to the cup.

Okay, so can I say a BIG thank you for finding those cups? I, too, saw that on Living Locurto and so wanted those cups but didn’t want to pay that. My daughter’s birthday party is ice cream sundae themed and I wanted those cups for the kids to put their ice cream in. Thank you!!!! Now if I could just find tiny spoons like they have at Baskin Robins I’d be set 🙂

@Danielle You will be happy to know the cups come with the little wooden spoons and lids too!! I found them in one of the aisles towards the front of the store on display. They had a whole set of matching things like plates, napkins, bowls, ice cream wrappers, and lots more.

One question: Do you take the cupcake liner off the cupcake before you put it in the ice cream cup? Thanks again!

@Mayor Yes, I did take the cupcake liners off the cupcakes before I put them in the cup. I think a fork is required to eat these, and I thought it would be so much easier to eat without the cupcake liner in there.
The card was super easy! The card was a pre-designed. I just cut all the pieces with the Silhouette SD and assembled it.
My younger son walked by when I was reading this post and literally started jumping up and down!

I’m so glad you explained about baking them in regular papers. I was thinking that ice cream cups might be wax lined and not good to cook in. You did a beautiful job!
