I have had several people that are new to couponing ask me how I plan my shopping trips. I thought I would share it with everyone. The first thing I do is head to my website for the coupon match ups and print all the coupons I need. Since I was out of town last week I wasn’t able to do the coupon match ups for Albertson’s last week, so for this trip I headed over to Fistful of Coupons and Fabulessly Frugal and checked out their match-ups (Thanks girls!)
Once I know what I want to buy, I make out my list. For this trip, I was doing 2 different promos, one where I had to spend in groups of $10, and another where I had to buy items in groups of 10. I also wanted to make sure I could use the $10 off $50 coupon, so I had to add everything up after coupons to make sure I met the amount.
Next, I get all of my coupons together, so they are ready at the store. This is the big stack of coupons I had planned for today’s trip. I put them in the front of my coupon organizer, so they are easy to access. When they have sales like this, there is usually something that is out of stock, so I make sure to have alternate items planned so I can make sure I meet the minimum requirements for the sale.
Here is everything I bought today. They were out of some of the granola bars and syrup that I wanted, so I had to make some adjustments. I got all of this for $36.09.
Here is my receipt. The regular retail price of everything was $189.14. I paid $36.09, and saved $153.05. That is a savings of 81%! It took me about 30 minutes to get my list and coupons together. The 30 minutes worth of work I did, saved me $153.00. Not bad for 1/2 an hour worth of work. I always bring all of my coupons a long with me in case I need to substitute a different item or if I see a great clearance deal. If you have any questions, let me know.
