I absolutely love homemade pretzels! These are fairly simple to make, anyone can do it, they are SOOO worth the effort. Here are the step-by-step instructions for you.
Homemade Soft Pretzels
(recipe from: While He Was Napping)
- 1 Tbsp. Yeast
- 1/8 Cup Warm Water
- 1 1/3 Cups Warm Water
- 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
- 3 3/4 Cups Flour
- 1 Tsp. Salt
First, dissolve yeast in 1/8 cup warm water, once dissolved add remaining ingredients and beat until smooth. Next up, you will kneed until smooth, it should take about 7 minutes. Let dough rise in an ungreased bowl, uncovered, for 1 hour.
Once the dough is ready, divide into 10 pieces, roll and shape into pretzels.
Once you have all the pretzels shaped you will want to bring the following ingredients to a boil:
- 1 Quart Water
- 3 Tbsp. Baking Soda
- 3 Tsp. Sugar
Drop pretzel into boiling water mixture and leave in for about 15 to 20 seconds on each side. Place on cookie sheet. Sprinkle with course sea salt (if desired, you can always add the toppings later). Bake at 400° for 10 to 15 minutes, until golden brown. Keep an eye on them, the bottom cooks faster than the top! I recommend baking them on a non-stick Silicone Baking Mat (Amazon link) if you have one.
Melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Dip or brush cooked pretzel in butter then add one of three toppings:
- Sea Salt
- Cinnamon and Sugar
- Parmesan Cheese
These pretzels are best warm, but around my house they never last long enough to cool down. You are going to love this recipe. It is one of my favorites! Enjoy!
