I am a lover of cookbooks, so when I was contacted about checking out the Dollar To Donuts cookbook by Dawn Welch, I jumped at the chance. Dawn is the owner of the nationally acclaimed Rock Cafe’ on historic Route 66.
I could tell I was going to love this cookbook just from the cover. First, the cover photograph is gorgeous and looks delicious. The cover told me what I would find inside the book, not only would I find comfort food, but I would find kitchen wisdom with the following:
- Save on Grocery Bills
- Spend Less Time in the Kitchen
- Learn Short-Order Secrets
- Add Pizazz to Old Favorites
All of these things sound great to me!
Here are the thing I love about this book
1. The Photographs – I love a cookbook with good photos, and this is full of gorgeous photos of delicious food.
2. The Recipes – There are so many recipes that I can’t wait to try. Plus, the recipes are ones that I am sure my whole family will enjoy. With 7 people it’s not always easy to please everyone. Here are some I am looking forward to trying:
Mozzarella & Orecchiette Toss – This looks just plain yummy! My picky kids love pasta, but sometimes pasta gets a little boring. This recipe will make us all happy. The picky kids can have the plain pasta and us non picky people can have the yummy pasta.
Everyone’s Favorite Potato Soup with Bacon – We love potato soup, and we love bacon!
Homemade Wonton Soup – One of my boys would think I was the coolest Mom ever if I made this for him. He loves to order this when we go out.
3. It covers the basics – I love that this isn’t just a book full of recipes, it gives you basics for cooking. She even includes recipes for sauces and tells you how to freeze them.
4. Recipe Guides – I like that she includes a guide with each recipe that tells you how much it cost. Plus, there are icons that tell you if you can make ahead, if it’s kid friendly, super quick and suitable for freezing.
I am thrilled with this cook book and happy it has found a way into my cookbook collection.
