I recently got a new washer and dryer, and was excited to try them out. I gathered up a bunch of clothes, threw them in the washing machine and started the cycle. When it was done, I took at all the clothes, and transferred them to the dryer. What did I see at the bottom of the washing machine? My son’s ipod!!! ACK!! He left it in the pocket of his shorts, and I didn’t check them before I washed them. I end up washing lots of items, I am not a pocket checker.
I was sure it was destroyed. I remember saving a cell phone before, so I tried the same method on his ipod, and it worked. It is seriously good as new!
Here is what you do if you get something wet, and hopefully it will save your device too, I have saved 2 electronics with this method.
1. Don’t use a blow dryer or fan to dry it out, you will want to use a vacuum cleaner to suck the water out, not blow it around.
2. Take the device apart if possible.
3. If it is a phone that got wet remove the battery and Sim card.
4. Set in a bowl of dry rice, completely cover the item. Leave for 24-48 hours. The rice should absorb the any of the liquid.
5. After the wait time, check the device. Do a happy dance, because it is perfectly fine.
6. If it is not perfectly fine, you can skip the happy dance.
I cannot tell you how relieved I am that we were able to save his ipod. I saved myself the money of replacing the device by taking the time to dry it out.
