Kids Gift Ideas – All under $5.00

This post will give you some ideas on how to put some kids gift items together using clearance, dollar store, and holiday items. I pick up items year round, so when a birthday comes along I don’t have to run to the store, I can just put something together with things I have already bought.

Necklace & Bunny
Total Cost = $4.46

I picked up this silver locket at JCPenney with the thought of giving it to a little girl. I always wanted a locket when I was little. I bought it for $2.97 at JCPenney during one of their final markdowns, the regular price was $40 (it is sterling silver).

To dress is it up a bit, I added the necklace onto one of the bunnies that I picked up at Target during the 90% off Easter clearance. The bunny cost 1.49. Total price for the gift $4.46.

I used this High School Musical item to hold all of the other items I got. This was actually considered an Easter Basket, and it was bought for $1.00 at Target (90% off Easter).

Book and Candy

Total Cost = $4.99

I love to give books as gifts, especially to my kids. Whenever I am at Borders or B&N, I check out the clearance books. This is a hardback book that was marked down to $3.99. I checked the reviews on Amazon once I got home to make sure it was a book worth keeping.

To make it more festive, I added some candy, and tied it up with a “Happy Birthday to You” ribbon. Total cost = $4.99

Mickey Set

Total cost = $4.98

Most of these items were picked up at the dollar store.

Crayons .24 (bought at before school sale)

Play-Doh .74 (Target 75% of Christmas clearance)

Since the Play-Doh was in the shape of a candy cane, I took them out and put them in cello bags and tied them with a ribbon.

I then added everything into a bucket that I also picked up at the dollar store.

Total cost = 4.98.

Super Hero Set

Total Cost= $4.62

My little man loves Super Heroes of any kind, so this set is for him.

Super Squad Iron man figures = 2.62 (75% off Target toy clearance)

Spiderman Puzzle 1.00 (dollar store)

Book = FREE (Borders erewards gift certificate)

bucket $1.00 (dollar store)

This time I personalized the bucket with rub-ons from my scrapbooking stash. You could also use stickers.

I put it all in the bucket and covered with cello. Total cost for this gift $4.62, and he is going to LOVE IT!

Misc. Items

Cost = $4.98 each

You can also just watch for clearance at Target. I bought all of these item for $4.98 each, they were regularly $19.95 each.

I hope this gives you some ideas for frugal gift giving. There are times that I end up with items that I couldn’t find anyone to give them to. I usually give the larger items to Toys for Tots at Christmas time, and I donate the smaller items to my kids classes at school (they have auctions for little prizes).
