I JUST tried this deal at my local Top foods (in Tacoma off of Union).
YMMV on this deal. I normally don’t shop at Top foods and so I am unfamiliar with how coupon-unfriendly they are. I attempted to purchase 8 cans of beans using 4 of these coupons and was told I could only use one of the coupons. A line started to form while I cheerfully tried to explain to the cashier that the term “one coupon per purchase” did not mean the same thing as “one coupon per transaction” but she was not hearing it. I politely said I would take my purchase to customer service instead, because I did not want to hold up those behind me. The customers behind me were VERY polite about the whole thing.
When I got to customer service they proceeded to tell me that I couldn’t just “take all the coupons” and that “one coupon per purchase” meant they wouldn’t allow multiple of the same coupon in the same transaction. They called their manager who confirmed the same thing over the phone. I tried in vain to explain that if I had come in with multiple of another coupon, they would have let me use it, but they did not want to oblige.
Ultimately they accused me of wanting to do 4 separate transactions in order to use the 4 coupons, which I did not want to do. They said “well, we’ll let you use two of the coupons but that’s it” and they scanned two of the coupons just fine. there was no beep or anything.
This whole ordeal was frustrating and embarrassing over a few cans of beans and I wanted to warn your other readers that this one may not be worth making a special trip for.
@Brandi I am sorry for your frustrating experience! Were you using just the in-ad coupons? I have some from the coupon insert, so I will probably just stick with those.
I am looking at the Haggen Coupon (owns Top) and the S & W coupon states that no other coupon may be used with this coupon. It looks like I can’t stack it with the 25 cents off coupon. I have never couponed at Haggen, and your experience is not encouraging.
@Tammy No, these 2 coupons cannot be stacked, they are both manufacturer coupons so you will use either the one in the ad OR the coupon from the insert. Either coupon gives you $1/ 2, so they will be $ .25 each with either one of the coupons.
I was using the in-ad coupon, which clearly states that it is a MANUFACTURER coupon, but I would stick with printables and inserts if I were trying this deal again.
I just wanted to share this with you, I took the time to e-mail TOP foods about my issue today and they took the time to send a very quick and thoughtful/helpful response. I hope that this means that other folks heading to TOP will not have the same experience that I did:
“Good afternoon Brandi,
I just received your email about your shopping experience today and I would like to sincerely apologize. We do take manufactures coupons and it should have been perfectly fine to scan the beans and the coupons in one transaction.
I will look into the matter and talk to our Front End Crew to make sure everyone understands our coupon policy.
I am very sorry about the confusion and the embarrassment this has caused you.”
They also offered a gift card to make up for the issue. They were really caring and I truly hope that they get the coupon situation figured out.
Well, this is kind of a toughie for Top.
It’s a great deal, but I can see why they wouldn’t want individual customers taking mulitple ads.
Mine is always very friendly about coupons, but I don’t think they get nearly as many couponers as other stores, so I can imagine they may be less familiar with terminology and maybe just worried it didn’t seem right?
Sorry you had a bad time, Brandi. Glad they’re making it right for you.
I think I’ll be sticking with one ad coupon and then my inserts. Great deal!
