Target announced via a press release that they will open at midnight for Black Friday. They will open at midnight on November 25th and close at 11:00 pm.
Here is the exciting news! In the same press release they spoke regarding their price adjustment policy and stated the following:
Price Adjustment Policy
Target’s Price Adjustment policy assures guests receive the best value. If a guest purchases an item at Target, but sees it advertised by Target at a lower price during the same week of the purchase, or the week following the purchase date, the guest can bring the original receipt to the Guest Service desk and receive a price adjustment. A guest has up to 90 days from the day of purchase to take advantage of the Price Adjustment policy
This means that we shouldn’t have any problems purchasing items the week before the BIG Black Friday sale and then go in for a price adjustments on the Friday (or Saturday) of the sale to get a refund for the difference in the purchase price.
Here is an example of how this would work:
Let’s say we get a preview of the ad, and we see there is a great deal on a Star Wars Lego that is normally $100 and it is on sale for $50 (This is just an example, I don’t have the ad yet). You would go to Target and purchase the Lego for the regular price of $100, then on the day of the Black Friday sale you would go to the customer service desk and ask for a price adjustment on the Lego (and any other items) you bought. You would receive a refund of $50, which is the difference between the price you paid and the sale price. This gives you a better chance of getting the items you want and also saves you from having to stand in any really long lines.
We don’t have a sneak peek of the ad yet, but when we do I will be sure to let you know! One other thing to note, they mentioned that a guest has up to 90 days from the day of purchase to take advantage of the Price Adjustment policy, this is a change from their normal 2 week requirement that they mention first in their price adjustment policy. I am writing Target for clarification on that, so I will let you know once I find out which one it is. You can learn all about their price adjustment policy HERE, please note they may or may not offer price adjustments on doorbuster items.

I would double check the price matching on Black Friday ads, I do know that in the past the policy was no price matching on black friday prices. The only time of the year they don’t do that. I work there so that has been policy before would double check sometimes wording can be confusing?
Kim says
Hi, I did this last year with several video games. They were great about it! Just be sure to bring your ads with you!
Christy says
@Laura I am talking about price adjustments, not price matching. Yes, I agree they will not do price matching of other stores Black Friday doorbuster sales. They will do a price adjustments for their own (non door buster) items, that is what I am referring to. When you buy ahead of time it saves you standing in the long lines and ensures you will get the items you want before they sell out.

May I ask what are considered door buster items? are these the clearance items? And the price adjustments also good for the regular days not just on black Friday? Thanks!
Roger says
Yes they do it…did it last year…but they hide their door busting items under boxes…but I used it to buy razor scooters, and vests for myself, some blanket last year…worked great!!
JMP says
how would it work if the Black Friday deal only involved a free gift card? Would I just take my receipt to customer service and they’d hand me a gift card for free? technically, the price was not adjusted. thanks!
Christy says
@JMP Unfortunately, purchases that include free gift cards would be excluded from the price adjustment policy.
Lisa says
Do they price adjust by offering you a Target gift card or a refund of the difference. That would be the deciding point for me.
Christy says
@Lisa You will get a refund in the form of payment you used. If you used cash you will get cash back. If you use a credit card they will refund the amount back to your card.
Rebecca says
Just to clarify, you always have 90 days to get a price adjustment at Target, however it is still limited to items that go on sale within 14 days. Say you buy something, and then go on vacation, when you come home you go through the newspaper and see an ad that was current within the 14 days from purchase, and the item you bought was on sale, you could bring that ad, even though it is no longer current, and get the price adjusted. The catch is that YOU must provide the ad to the store, as they may not have copies leftover.
Christy says
Thanks Rebecca!

If the item were a free gift card with purchase item couldn’t you just go on black friday and do a return and re-buy it right away? I was considering doing this with the iPod on sale for $195 with $40 gift card. I was thinking of going this Friday purchasing it and then taking it to the store with me on BF after all the morning chaos to price adjust or if they can’t do that because of the gift card just having them refund and re-ring up. Would that work?
Rebekah says
Just make sure you check first! I have called 3 targets in my area and they are not doing price adjustments on black Friday.
Christy says
@Rebekah I am thinking that the employees may be confusing price adjustments with price matching.
Target mentions price adjustments in their Black Friday press release. I have done it for the last several years and have never had a problem. I have also emailed Target corporate regarding the price adjustments on Black Friday and they say they will.
Christy says
@Laura No, unfortunately, your scenario wouldn’t work, you can’t return and then re-buy and item on the spot. If you return it, it won’t go back on the sales floor right away.
Christa says
Christy, thank you for your post. I would like to take a printout of their price adjustment policy with me on Friday, but I can’t find it on their site. Do you know where I could find it?
Thanks!
Christy says
@Christa The price adjustment policy is mentioned in their Black Friday press release here: https://pressroom.target.com/pr/news/target-to-open-doors-at-midnight-10-28-11.aspx
Christa says
Thanks!

I have worked at Target for several years now and always on Black Friday. We just received our holiday training packet and it states we will NOT offer price adjustments on Black Friday prices. This has been a policy in all of the years I have worked there, however, many of the guest service team members often overlooked the policy or were not trained properly. We WILL honor competitor prices as long as you have their sales ad. Normal policy states you can price adjust within 14 Days (two sales ads). Many items (mostly electronics) return policy is now 45 days instead of 90 so be sure you know before trying to return the item or adjusting.

Does anyone have any information on price adjustments for this year? 2012?
