We're hosting a beach-themed bridal shower. I plan to prepare bottles like this for each guest. Then have each guest write some "advice" to the couple for a happy marriage. Then roll, tie, and place the "advice" in the bottle and present to the bride and groom to open later to get the words of wisdom!

Love it! We just had our daughters 3rd birthday, Under the Sea theme, and I did the same thing. We actually used plastic FUZE bottles with the lid that screwed on (plus they were the blue lids to match). I have seen them before with sand and they ship well, but we opted for blue sanding sugar (like the kid you use for cookie decorating) and also added some little orange goldfish looking cupcake type candy decorations to match the color theme. They were all hand-delivered except a handful and I just added tape around the top (clear) and they stuck the mailing label right on it at $1.99/each to ship in state! Yikes, I know, but they got there without any issues, so it was worth the few to send! :) Have fun planning the tropical event...will be fun to watch!

Those are cute! We always try to make our kids parties really fun. My daughter turned 6 last summer and had a chuck e cheese birthday party which was around $170 and this year she's doing safari sams which is about $180. My 2 year old gets rainbow themed party this year (even though it's not till october) and I've gotten a million awesome ideas for it off of pinterest. We usually do pizza so after all the decorations and food are bought it's at least about $150. But hey, they only happen once a year and they only get one childhood, right?! :)

Those are cute bottles! I've seen people do that for wedding invitations. Can you imagine how expensive that would be to mail them out?

With both of my kids having birthdays one day apart, we have switched to having their friend parties every other year. My daughter's is this year, and, since she's turning 15, she doesn't want anything over the top. Just some food, games, music and maybe a walk down to the park. Easy, and inexpensive, for me!

We've only done destination place parties twice - one for each kid. I happened to score great deals at Malibu Raceway. Between the two parties (on different years), we spent about $50 for both. But, deals like that are sometimes hard to come by.
